Scott Monument is the Victorian theme based monument was built in the memory of Sir Walter Scott. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish author, historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian. He died in the year 1832. This historic monument is located in the Princess Streer Garden of the Edinburgh. The statue of Sir Walter Scott designed by John Steell is located inside the Scott Monument and it is the main tourist attraction.

Scott Monument Edinburgh History, Facts, Architectural Information
History: This monument was designed by George Meikle Kemp. The foundation stone was laid on 15 August 1840 and actual construction was started in the year 1941. After 4 years, construction work was completed in autumn season of the year 1844. This beautiful monument was inaugurated on 15 August 1846. In the year 2016, LED lighting system was installed on the monument.
Architecture: Tower height is the 60 feets. There are total 68 figurative statues are present in the design. Out of 68, only 64 statues can be seen from the ground. The main attraction is Sir Walter Scott Statue which is located inside the monument. This statue was made using white Carrara marble.
Facts: Total £16,154 amount required to construct this monument. In the 1990’s restoration work had been done. The huge amount of £2.36 million was required for restoration.
