Built By: This huge temple was built during the period of great Maratha king “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj”. As per historical documents, this temple was built by Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan.

Durlabhsheth was a rich Peshwa merchant who was a devotee of Saptashrungi Devi. He used to go to Vani Devi temple during Chaitra Poornima festival. But as time passed, due to his older age he wasn’t capable to travel that more than 300 Km distance. Then one night in his dream, he saw “Saptashrungi Devi” who told him that she lives in the mountains of North-West Pune. So next day he went there and start to dig the mountains. After some time, he found the natural statue of “Saptashrungi Devi” over there. This natural statue is also known as “Swayambhu Devi”. So Durlabhsheth built the temple in these mountain ranges. Interesting thing is that this “Chaturshringi” name came from these mountains. In Sanskrit “Chatur” means four and “Shringi” means mountain peak. This temple was built in the range of four mountains that is why it was named as “Chaturshringi Temple”.
